Capacity (TPY)
180,000
To help meet SB1383 diversion goals, Northern Recycling developed a large-scale organics recycling facility at the Yolo County Landfill. This facility includes extensive feedstock pre-processing and product post-processing capabilities. The feedstocks are converted to compost in an aerated static pile. The ASP system needed to efficiently produce a stabilized and pathogen free product to meet the high throughput requirement while needing minimal maintenance and providing decades of service.
ECS worked closely with the NRWS team to configure, permit and deliver a 120ft by 800ft biolayer covered aerated static pile (CASP) system. The CASP has 24 independently monitored and controlled zones. The high-capacity aeration available at each zone is automatically controlled to follow the response of, and optimize the process conditions in, each batch according to an operator selected control sequence. The mechanical elements of the aeration floor under each zone are constructed entirely of rugged HDPE and stainless steel. All of which are recessed below the finished concrete surface for protection and designed for easy servicing. This high degree of process control combined with a capable operating team allows the site to process 180,000 tons/year of organics!
We have enjoyed working with ECS to build one of the largest composting facilities in the region. With this system, we have the ability to process 180,000 tons/year of organics, helping meet state diversion goals and improve our community. Will Kelley Resource Manager
