CFM Exhaust Air
120,000
Client Needs
This project in the Bay Area Air Quality Management District required a biofilter to limit emissions from a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF). The biofilter needed to accept 120,000 CFM of dry ambient air and have provisions for different Air Change per Hour (ACH) settings for different times of day.
ECS Solution
ECS designed, provided the major components for, and coordinated start-up and testing of, a large biofiltration system. This system features two VFD controlled 120 hp high-flow fans, in-duct humidification to saturate the MRF’s dry exhaust air, surface irrigation, and our CompTroller™ automated control and monitoring system to provide user selected building ACH levels, automated moisture application, and monitoring of media temperature and back-pressure.
In addition, ECS employed our Air Sampling Tunnel to measure scrubbing performance during start up. This device collects air samples from a much larger, and therefore more representative, surface area on the biofilter than the standard Flux Chamber. This helped our client cost-effectively meet their permit obligations to measure emissions with fewer sample locations.
