Livingston, MT 2010

Containerized biosolids composting.

Client Needs:

Leading up to the selection of ECS as compost facility designer and supplier, the City of Livingston, was facing tighter regulatory controls around disposal of Class B biosolids. Their method of land application did not incorporate biosolids into the soil, resulting in additional soil testing and regulatory paperwork. The City of Livingston needed:

  • A year-round sustainable biosolids residuals program
  • A biosolids process that would use yard waste as bulking agents
  • A system that would contain and control odors at their WWTP facility
  • A Made-in-USA system provider to take advantage of state grant money

ECS Solution:

Similar to the ECS Big Sky, MT, facility, Livingston’s Container Vessel system has its mechanical systems below grade, protected from snow accumulation and snow removal equipment. The original delivery included three Containerized Vessels with aeration and CompTroller™ automated controls, a Helm Welding 475 ft3 4-auger mixer and dedicated vessel loading conveyor. In 2018 the City ordered a fourth vessel to meet the increased production at their WWTP.
